COMING SOON
Wi-Fi Calling and Texting
Many of our customers have asked for this feature, and we listened! We are excited to account that Wi-Fi calling and texting will be coming soon to Twigby.
Wi-Fi calling is especially useful when you're in an area with weak cellular coverage. For example, when you're traveling to the residential countryside or you're in a building with spotty reception. You may already be familiar with using Wi-Fi to send messages when SMS texting is unavailable. iPhone users will be familiar with their native blue colored texts from iMessage, and the same applies when you're trying to place a call. With Wi-Fi, you can call a friend up even if you're in a basement (assuming you can connect to Wi-Fi, that is).
Now if you're ever in an area with unpredictable coverage or traveling outside of the U.S, with Wi-fi calling you'll be able to connect to the nearest Wi-Fi hotspot and use your Twigby phone to call or text over Wi-Fi!
We will be sending updates along the way and expect to have this feature available to you by May 2023.
What is Wi-Fi Talk and Text?
Wi-Fi calling and texting allows you to make and receive calls and text messages using a Wi-Fi network with your existing Twigby phone number. A phone with Wi-Fi calling functionality is required.
Does Wi-Fi Calling and Texting use the data on my plan?
No, calls and texts made over Wi-Fi don't use the cellular network and don't count against your mobile plan's data allowance.
How do I know if my phone is capable of Wi-Fi calling?
If your phone is capable of Wi-Fi calling, you will see it available in your phone's Settings.
On Android Phones
Tap on Settings. Then within the search box, type in Wi-Fi calling. Your phone should display the feature within your settings. If not, you can check Mobile Networks or Internet or Connections. The labeling of this setting can vary depending on the model of the phone you are using. Next, look for the Wi-Fi calling setting. On some newer phones, Wi-Fi calling functionality can be installed if they are offered by your phone manufacturer through a firmware update. If you do not see Wi-Fi calling under your phone's settings but you are using a newer device with LTE capability (typically devices released in 2015 or later), research your phone model number to see if Wi-Fi calling is available and if a firmware update is required.
On iPhones
Wi-Fi calling functionality is available on most newer iPhones (including iPhone 6S or later). To see if your device has Wi-Fi calling, tap on your phone's Settings. Then tap on Cellular, and choose Cellular Data Options to look for the Wi-Fi calling option.
How will I use my phone outside the country?
While connected to Wi-Fi calling, your phone will work just like it does in the U.S. You can call and text number in the U.S. without paying an additional surcharge. Then to call numbers outside the U.S., just be sure to dial our access number before placing the call. Learn more here.
How much will Wi-Fi Calling and Texting cost?
There is no additional charge for using the built-in Wi-Fi calling feature.
